Maharashtra Government Announces 12% DA Hike

The Maharashtra government has made a significant decision by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its government employees by 12%. This hike will be effective from July 1, 2024, under the 5th Pay Commission. This decision will bring relief to around 17 lakh government employees and pensioners in the state. Rising inflation had led to repeated demands for a DA increase, which has now been fulfilled.

How Much Will Employees' Salaries Increase?

The DA hike will directly impact government employees' salaries. With a 12% increase, the total DA will rise from 443% to 455%. This will result in a considerable salary boost for government employees, helping them cope with inflation. Pensioners will also receive similar benefits as part of the dearness relief (DR) scheme.

DA Raised from 443% to 455%

After consultation with the finance department, the Maharashtra government approved this increase. Previously, government employees were receiving 443% DA, which has now been raised to 455%. This increase will provide financial stability and ease the burden of rising costs.

Pensioners Will Also Benefit from DA Hike

Just like government employees, pensioners will also benefit from this decision. The Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners has been increased accordingly, leading to a rise in their monthly pension. This move will significantly support retired employees in managing their expenses better.

Arrears to be Paid with February Salary

According to the government's official notification, arrears for the period from July 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, will be paid along with the February 2025 salary. Employees can expect to receive a lump sum amount, further enhancing their financial situation.

17 Lakh Employees to Benefit

This decision will positively impact over 17 lakh government employees and pensioners in Maharashtra. The finance department has confirmed that existing DA rules will continue to apply in the future, and the increased expenditure will be covered under the state’s salary and allowance budget.

Jharkhand and West Bengal Also Increased DA

Apart from Maharashtra, other states have also decided to increase DA for government employees. On February 18, the Jharkhand government approved a 7% DA hike, which will be effective from July 1, 2023. With this hike, DA for Jharkhand government employees will increase from 239% to 246%.

Similarly, the West Bengal government also announced a 4% DA hike for its employees. The state's finance minister shared this update on February 12, providing relief to government employees in the state.

A Big Relief for Government Employees

With rising inflation, several state governments are increasing DA to support their employees. The recent hikes in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will bring financial relief to lakhs of government employees and pensioners. This move will help them manage rising expenses and improve their financial stability.
